FoxNews.com

Opponents of hydraulic fracturing - a process known simply as "fracking" that uses pressurized water and chemicals to extract natural gas from the ground – say it risks polluting well water, though others note there have been no known cases of well water contamination to be traced to fracking.

Fox News would like to know your opinion. Results of this unscientific, online survey will be included in a Fox News Channel report on Wednesday.

Share your thoughts. Answer our question, and then leave a comment.

Do you believe 'fracking' pollutes well water?

----------------------------
Of course this is FOXNEWS ( 'joke central', for spewing BS propaganda across the globe catering to those who cannot think for themselves)

Might we remind you that in Colorado alone statistics show that 43% of oil and gas development and operation spills that use hydraulic fracturing cause ground water contamination.

Below are previous reports that we published some time ago indicating the # of groundwater contamination from O&G that uses fracking.

Hello Media,

Please be advised that 2 northern Colorado conservation groups have sent the attached letter to the Colorado Oil and Gas Association requesting that this radio ad be removed from the airwaves because it contains information that is not correct. We offer an analysis of Weld County Spill/Release Reports to support our request.

Here's the radio ad:

Colorado Oil and Gas Association Statement Not Correct, Again
Contamination of Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer and Residential Water Well Occurred in 2009

Fort Collins, CO -- In the February 28, 2012 online version of the
Denver Post, the President of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association is quoted as making this statement:

Colorado's rules include provisions addressing "cementing and casing of wells," Schuller said. And since 2009 "there has not been a drilling or hydraulic-fracturing incident that has affected groundwater, and there have been no incidents which have affected a family's or community's drinking water," she said. http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_20058409
This statement is not correct.

One such "incident" occurred on August 11, 2009 in which toulene and dissolved methane were found in a residential water well in Weld County that included contamination of the Fox-Hills Aquifer. The homeowner filed a complaint ("gas bubbles were present in his water"). The COGCC tested the water and found the contaminants. The COGCC required a nearby gas well to be tested and concluded there was a hole in the casing. The gas well was then shut down. The operator (Eddy Oil) was fined $46,200 and required to remediate the property owner's impacts. The extent of the contamination to the Laramie-Fox Hills aquifer is unclear at this time as is any effort to decontaminate the aquifer.

Here is the "NOAV" Report for the incident:
http://cogcc.state.co.us/cogis/NOAVReport.asp?doc_num=200222149
Here is the Spill/Release Report ("Form 19, 6/99"):
http://water.clean.home.comcast.net/~water.clean/Form-19-Final-at-02-19-10-EDDY-OIL-CO.pdf
Here is the "Administrative Order By Consent 1V-349" in which it states (
http://water.clean.home.comcast.net/~water.clean/Administrative-Order-By-Consent-1V-349.doc):
16. Based on the above facts, COGCC Staff contend that a hole in the production casing in the Well resulted in a significant waste of oil and gas resources and a significant adverse impact on public health, safety or welfare or the environment as it pertains to Rule 324A.a. COGCC Staff further contend that Eddy Oil’s failure to maintain a casing program to prevent the migration of produced gas from Codell Formation in the Well to the Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer resulted in the degradation and contamination of ground water. (page 3)

"COGA's statement in the Denver Post is not correct," said Shane Davis of the Sierra Club, Poudre Canyon Group. "Groundwater and aquifer contamination have occurred in a residential water well since 2009."

Further, the Sierra Club and Clean Water Action point out that "since 2009," Spill/Release Reports sent to the COGCC by drilling operators in Weld County show that 46.3% of the 452 spills/releases contaminated groundwater and 2.2% of 452 spills/releases contaminated surface water. (Table here:
http://water.clean.home.comcast.net/~water.clean/SC-CWA-to-COGA-Since-2009-2-29-2012.pdf)

"Groundwater and surface water are being contaminated by oil and gas production activities," said Gary Wockner of Clean Water Action.

The Sierra Club, Poudre Canyon Group and Clean Water Action continue to analyze the data from Weld County, Colorado.

You're an idiot if you think you can attempt to move the minds of the young people to think 'fracking' is cool.

Facebook, "South Park" and perhaps an image makeover are what the dirty gas industry needs to clean up its reputation.

Just a few short weeks ago the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission was described as having its collective "ass kicked" when it came to hydraulic fracturing. A Colorado natural gas executive said the problem with the industry is that it is not on Facebook and not watching enough South Park... Really.

During the conference, "Enhancing Shale Oil & Gas Development Strategies" in Denver, Tisha Conoly-Schuller the president and CEO of the Colorado Oil & Gas Association
(COGA) outlined the reasons why the public has turned against hydraulic fracturing and ways to fix this public relations nightmare.

The solution, in her mind, was simple: Make fracking cool. Among the many recommendations was to "[reposition] the industry to appeal more broadly to young people."

NaturalGasWatch.org, which was the "official blogger" of the event, quoted Conoly-Schiller in saying, "people that like South Park are our audience." She then went on to say that one way of tapping into that audience is through social media. "Conoly-Schuller closed her remarks by urging each of the executives to get on Facebook," reported Natural Gas Watch.

Dear COGCC,

You're an idiot if you think you can attempt to move the minds of the young people to think 'fracking' is cool.  You are so far out of touch with reality and the sense of adept minds you approach as changeable.  You will never succeed in your imaginary objective against the youth. Your goal is out of touch with reality and you are far, far  to late to think otherwise.

The youth will NOT be persuaded by a destructive industry that destroys the water, air and land of the people! The approach by the oil and gas industry was insincere and deceptive from day one. You cannot even remotely think you have an opportunity to change the minds of those the industry has destroyed.

If you want to change the minds of the youth, support non-destructive methods. Pack your bags, we don't want anything you're selling! The only support you will get is when fracking is BANNED!

Please take 15 seconds to email the COGCC  HERE and tell them Fracking will NEVER be cool!

Colorado: Shell gets OK for fracking in Spanish Peaks Colorado

State approves 14,000-foot-deep fracking operation without public hearing

SUMMIT COUNTY — Shell Oil & Gas has been cleared to drill deep into a unique geological formation near the Spanish Peaks, in southern Colorado, to explore new natural gas resources.

Huerfano County planning and elected officials gave the exploratory fracking project a conditional green light last week, to the dismay of many local residents who are clamoring for more upfront research and better safeguards against environmental impacts.

The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission last month denied a citizen request for a public hearing because the request didn’t come from a local government entry.

“To my knowledge, this is the first fracking operation on the Front Range of Colorado,” said Sandy Borthick, member of a citizens group which presented a request for “seven safeguards” to the Huerfano planning and zoning commission.

The approval process was fraught with controversy, as the planning and zoning commission refused to let members of the public speak at preliminary meetings on the approval. Scott King, chair of the commission, threatened to forcibly remove citizens from meetings, according to Ceal Smith, of the San Luis Valley Renewable Communities Alliance.

When audience members protested this action, King responded with, “So sue us,” according to Smith.

The group, Citizens for Huerfano County, requested a public hearing with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, but was turned down because the request did not come from a local government body. Check out this Facebook page on fracking in Huerfano County.

How on Earth could the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) give the green light when the public is asking for initial research to prove the drilling (fracking) techniques will safeguard their livelihoods?  WTFrack.org is now officially asking that the COGCC REMOVE 'Conservation' from their name.  You have no business leaning on the term ‘Conservation’, when you do not employ it!
