Petition to Stop fracking in the Delaware River Basin: Only 6,000 more signatures needed!
Please sign and forward the petition to everyone.

In just a few days, the Delaware River Watershed, which provides drinking water to 15 million people in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, could be opened up to the dangers of horizontal Hydraulic Fracturing (also known as fracking).
The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) has proposed a plan to lift a three year ban on fracking and, for the first time, allow this risky new method of gas drilling, that has already contaminated water supplies across the country.1
The DRBC is meeting on November 21st to vote on the proposed regulations. Each state's governor, along with President Obama, have a representative on the commission. We need to strongly urge them to reject this dangerous plan.
Tell President Obama and your governor: Protect our drinking water - don't frack the Delaware watershed!

Save the Delaware River from Fracking
Save the Delaware River from Fracking
Dear friends-
We've come a long way in the fight against fracking. The flaming faucets in GASLAND has been seen by upwards of 40 million people in 20 countries. A recent study shows that 4 out of 5 Americans say that they are concerned about the effect of fracking on drinking water.
But our most crucial stand is less than two weeks away.
On November 21st the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) will vote to approve a plan that will allow for 20,000 or more fracked gas wells in the Delaware River Basin . We need you to come out and protest the vote in huge numbers.
Because this moment is so important, I made a new video, my first video addressing fracking since GASLAND. You can watch it HERE.
The crucial decision to frack or not to frack the Delaware is in the hands of President Obama and the Governors of Delaware and New York . We need you to take charge and push them to do the right thing.
I have travelled all over this world, in over 30 states in the USA, to Africa, to Europe, Asia and Australia and one thing is clear: Fracking is not only one of the most destructive forms of extreme energy development, creating water contamination, horrific and hazardous air pollution and a health crisis, it is a world wide scourge that pushes us farther away from the renewable energy future that we need.
Now the fight comes back to my home, the Delaware River Basin , where it started for me. But this fight isn't about me. It's about the drinking water for 16 million people that the Delaware River provides.
If enough of us get out there, we can save the Delaware River and we can win a huge battle in the fight against fracking nationwide and worldwide. We can inspire the nation and the world to rid ourselves of this dirty form of energy.
THE CRUCIAL VOTE:
The Delaware River Basin Commission is an interstate body with five voting members, the Governors of New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey and the Obama Administration as represented by the Army Corps of Engineers. Three out of five votes will either pass or reject the plan to frack the Delaware River .
It seems clear that the Governors of New Jersey and Pennsylvania will vote to allow fracking on a huge scale in the River Basin, which is why we need all three remaining votes in order to prevail.
Like the massive actions these past few months against Tar Sands development and the Keystone XL pipeline, this decision will be a "watershed" moment for President Obama and a must win for us fighting against extreme energy development.
Not only is the Delaware River the source of drinking water for 16 million people (or 5% of Americans), it is a designated Wild and Scenic river, a tourist destination for 5.4 million people a year and a national treasure. The proposed plan to frack the Delaware would forever industrialize and contaminate this precious and currently pristine watershed. We can work together now to protect our water.
We are asking you to do two things:
1) Make calls. 2) Come join us in an amazing protest effort on November 21st.
MAKE CALLS RIGHT NOW:
Call the Army Corps of Engineers to urge them to vote no fracking in the Delaware River Basin . Tell them you will hold President Obama accountable for the vote and make it clear that you know that it is his decision. 703 697 4672 Leave a message for Jo Ellen Darcy, Obama's rep on the DRBC
Call Governor Jack Markell of Delaware . Delaware has been sitting on the fence on fracking. We need them clearly and unequivocally voting no. Tell him to vote no fracking on the upcoming DRBC vote.
Call Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York . Tell him to oppose fracking in the Delaware River Basin watershed, just as he has in the New York city and Syracuse watersheds. 518-474-8390
PROTEST on NOVEMBER 21st in Trenton , N.J.
When: November 21, 8 am
Where: Patriots Theater at the War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive Trenton , N.J.

AND just for a shot in the arm, here is a special statement from our friend, Bill McKibben:
"We're obviously deep in the trenches in Keystone XL pipeline fight, which has galvanized the whole country. But it's not just the pipe we're fighting, it's the carbon it carries. And that carbon--that extreme energy, the second round of fossil fuels now that the easy stuff is gone--doesn't just come from tarsands. It also comes from removing mountaintops for coal, and from drilling deep under the ocean--and, urgently, from fracking. We've simply got to somehow slow the rush to this new and dangerous technology, which promises to overwhelm the atmosphere with global warming gases. "
I've never had more resolve, I've never been more challenged and yet I've never felt more proud of us and our strength that I do right now. I know we can win. Please join us and act quickly.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia: At noon today, all seventeen members of Philadelphia’s City Council voted in favor of a resolution which joins the City of Philadelphia as a Friend of the Court, together with lawsuits already filed by the Attorney General of the State of New York, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, and other parties, in suing the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC). Philadelphia is joining these lawsuits to require, according to the resolution passed today, “that no drilling of Marcellus Shale take place until a full environmental analysis is completed.”
“Today was a great day for democracy, science and human health in Philadelphia,” said abe [Mr. Alex Allen], Associate Director of Protecting Our Waters, after the vote. ”Our representatives in City Council chose to unanimously look out for the interests of the people while resisting the persistent lobbying of the industry.”
The resolution was sponsored by Councilman Curtis Jones and Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, and co-sponsored by Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez. Physician Walter Tsou, Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, Denise Dennis, whose historic land is impacted by shale gas drilling; and two activists testified in favor. About 30 supporters inside City Hall held up signs affirming, “Protect Our Water,” and “Don’t Drill the Delaware.” Councilman O’Neill, the only councilperson not present for the vote, had cast his “aye” vote before leaving the chambers. Councilman Jones’ office is now exploring next steps with regard to the suit, which must be filed by the Law Office of the City of Philadelphia.
Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, who testified at Council today, was delighted with the vote.
”Shale gas drilling is a public health disaster in the making,” he warned.

The “Natural” Gas Industry wants to drill 20,000+ gas wells in the Delaware River Basin Watershed using high-volume, slick-water hydraulic fracturing—a process that poisons aquifers, rivers, streams, soil, and the very air we breathe.
The people of the four states that depend on the clean water of the DRB filed 68,000 statements with the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), overwhelmingly against allowing drilling in the watershed. But all indications are that the DRBC will agree to a corporate sell-out of terrifying proportions at the November 21ST Hearing.
Stop the Sell-Out; Join Us!
What Will Happen if Fracking Comes to the Delaware River Basin?
The DRBC (Delaware River Basin Commission) was created by a US Supreme Court mandate in 1961. Composed of governors of NY, PA, NJ, DE and the federal government (currently the Army Corps of Engineers), its mandate is to protect and manage the waters of the Delaware River Basin. This basin supplies drinking water to 15 million people (5% of all Americans), including NYC, Philadelphia, Trenton, Camden, S. Jersey, and most of Delaware State.
Since 2005, when the U.S. Government exempted fracking from the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and the Superfund, fracking and industry spin has swept across our country, making investors and policymakers believe we have enough domestic natural gas for perhaps 50-100 years. Unfortunately, natural gas drilling means much more than dollar signs…
•Gas drilling produces more greenhouse gas emissions than even coal when you include all the methane and other pollutants released in the drilling process.
• Fracking contaminates water supplies with heavy metals, methane and radioactive materials found deep underground, as well as with the toxic chemicals used in the process itself. These toxins leach into the soil and into our food chain.
• Gas drilling also releases highly toxic volatile organic compounds into the air, many of which are carcinogenic, and many of which exponentially increase the amount of ozone we breathe.
• Gas drilling and waste disposal has been directly linked to earthquake activity.
• Gas drilling creates a few, mostly temporary, highly dangerous jobs. It also destroys many traditional jobs, like agriculture. The New York Times has labeled its investment strategies as a ponzi scheme.
Both the NY Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) are about to issue fracking regulations to open up the farmlands and watersheds of NYS and the Delaware River Basin to this dangerous process. Meanwhile, Spectra Energy, with the blessing of billionaire Mayor Bloomberg, is about to receive a permit to build a 36-42” high-pressure gas pipeline under the West Side Highway, the West Village and Lower Chelsea, just like the one that blew-up in San Bruno, CA in 2010, killing eight people.
And all of this is completely unnecessary. Renewable energy is ready. We just need to get the cold fingers of fossil fuel corporations off the neck of our democracy.
