Occupy DRBC NOVEMBER 21, 2011
CONNECTING THE DOTS FROM WALL STREET TO WATER
We are standing in solidarity with our friends from Occupy Wall Street.
While the Oil & Gas Industry makes record profits, and pays minimal taxes, they threaten our clean water and health.
WE VALUE CLEAN WATER & GREEN ENERGY OVER CORPORATE GREED!
Hundreds of people have already pledged to Occupy the Delaware River Basin Commission on October 21, 2011 to SAVE 15 MILLION LIVES IN NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, PENNSYLVANIA, AND DELAWARE FROM CORPORATE GREED.
BE THERE:
7:30AM, NOVEMBER 21, 2011

Can’t pay for the bus??? We’ll find a way!
The “Natural” Gas Industry wants to drill 20,000+ gas wells in the Delaware River Basin Watershed using high-volume, slick-water hydraulic fracturing—a process that poisons aquifers, rivers, streams, soil, and the very air we breathe.
The people of the four states that depend on the clean water of the DRB filed 68,000 statements with the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), overwhelmingly against allowing drilling in the watershed. But all indications are that the DRBC will agree to a corporate sell-out of terrifying proportions at the November 21ST Hearing.
Stop the Sell-Out; Join Us!
What Will Happen if Fracking Comes to the Delaware River Basin?
The DRBC (Delaware River Basin Commission) was created by a US Supreme Court mandate in 1961. Composed of governors of NY, PA, NJ, DE and the federal government (currently the Army Corps of Engineers), its mandate is to protect and manage the waters of the Delaware River Basin. This basin supplies drinking water to 15 million people (5% of all Americans), including NYC, Philadelphia, Trenton, Camden, S. Jersey, and most of Delaware State.
Since 2005, when the U.S. Government exempted fracking from the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and the Superfund, fracking and industry spin has swept across our country, making investors and policymakers believe we have enough domestic natural gas for perhaps 50-100 years. Unfortunately, natural gas drilling means much more than dollar signs…
•Gas drilling produces more greenhouse gas emissions than even coal when you include all the methane and other pollutants released in the drilling process.
• Fracking contaminates water supplies with heavy metals, methane and radioactive materials found deep underground, as well as with the toxic chemicals used in the process itself. These toxins leach into the soil and into our food chain.
• Gas drilling also releases highly toxic volatile organic compounds into the air, many of which are carcinogenic, and many of which exponentially increase the amount of ozone we breathe.
• Gas drilling and waste disposal has been directly linked to earthquake activity.
• Gas drilling creates a few, mostly temporary, highly dangerous jobs. It also destroys many traditional jobs, like agriculture. The New York Times has labeled its investment strategies as a ponzi scheme.
Both the NY Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) are about to issue fracking regulations to open up the farmlands and watersheds of NYS and the Delaware River Basin to this dangerous process. Meanwhile, Spectra Energy, with the blessing of billionaire Mayor Bloomberg, is about to receive a permit to build a 36-42” high-pressure gas pipeline under the West Side Highway, the West Village and Lower Chelsea, just like the one that blew-up in San Bruno, CA in 2010, killing eight people.
And all of this is completely unnecessary. Renewable energy is ready. We just need to get the cold fingers of fossil fuel corporations off the neck of our democracy.
It would be awesome if Josh Fox mentions WTFrack's investigations and discovery regarding serious negligence by our Colorado agency the "Colorado Oil and Gas Commission". They are charged with the responsibility to PROMOTE AND REGULATE OIL AND GAS.
ReplyDeleteThis COMMISSION haS not responded to citizen complaints, violations, poor inspections, thousands of leaks and spills, lack of clean up,
dumping of toxic waste on land, in streams and sprayed on roads legally.
New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, California, Texas and other states that have begun fracking for the first time should go to the Colorado Oil and Gas website and see this
tragic information for themselves! www.cogcc
It's unbelievable...
this man is such a liar A FRACKING LIAR
