Moving Planet Bike Ride/Rally, Party and Green Fair
WHAT: Moving Planet is a worldwide rally to demand solutions to the climate crisis – a single day to move away from fossil fuels.
We want our Colorado event to be one of the biggest Moving Planet events in the U.S.!
This fun “Power Past Fossil Fuels” bike ride begins at the Municipal Building in Boulder and finishes with a Moving Planet Party and Green Fair at the State
Capitol in Denver, with sponsor and partner booths, live music, inspirational speakers and fun!
WHO: The event is sponsored by http://www.350.org/ and many local green businesses and organizations.
Everyone is welcome to participate in this event and take part in any portion of the ride or just show up for the Party and Green Fair at the end.
People who don’t want to cycle as far (families, etc.) can join us at one of the action station locations along the way, until we are a moving spectacle on wheels (or foot) numbering in the thousands, arriving at the State Capitol.
WHERE: The bike ride will start at the Boulder Municipal Building and ride will stop at various “action stations” along the way – places we would like to see move beyond fossil fuels – which will be hosted by partner organizations.
Action stations include coal plants, a tar sands oil refinery, and other dirty energy spots along the way.
We will call for these dirty old coal plants to be retired now, for a safe direct bike route between Boulder and Denver (so the many cyclists in our region can commute fossil-free) and for a clean energy future.
The bike ride ends in Denver at the Capitol Building, with a Moving Planet Party and Green Fair, with sponsor and partner booths, live music, inspirational speakers and fun!
WHEN: Saturday, September 24, 2011. The ride starts at 8 am in Boulder and ends in Denver at 5 pm. The Moving Planet Party and Green Fair will be from 5-7 pm at the Capitol Building in Denver.
WHY: For too long, our leaders have denied and delayed, compromised and caved. That era must come to an end. On September 24, 2011 come on bike, on skates, on a board, or just on foot. Come with your neighbors and your friends, your family and your co-workers. Come be part of something huge. It’s time to get moving on the climate crisis.
