Cyclists in the "Tour de Frac" will bike the countryside around Ithaca to visit areas leased for hydraulic fracturing. Offering two routes -- a 22-mile and a 35-mile option -- the event is intended to increase awareness about local issues of drilling, according to organizers.

The ride, set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, will depart from the Cornell Business and Technology Park on Thornwood Drive, near the Tompkins County Airpor. For insurance purposes, all registered riders must be members of the Finger Lakes Cycling Club.

To become a member visit www.flcycling.org/. Individual memberships cost $10 and family memberships are $12.
