| Protect Brook Trout's WatersSupport a Ban on "Fracking" in a National Forest
|
Dear Shane,
Brook trout in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia depend on cold, clear water in unpolluted streams and are especially vulnerable to the pollution and development caused by hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking".
Take action to protect brook trout from hydraulic fracturing in the George Washington National Forest.
Fortunately, in the George Washington National Forest's new forest plan the U.S. Forest Service just proposed a ban on the horizontal drilling that is used in fracking.
Not only is this great news for the brook trout, bears, cerulean warblers and other migratory birds who depend on the George Washington National Forest, it sets a precedent for protecting other national forests from dangerous hydraulic fracturing.
Take a stand to protect sensitive wildlife in our national forests from dangerous hydraulic fracturing.
Right now, hydraulic fracturing industry allies in Congress are trying to block the proposed local restrictions on this high-risk drilling, which has been linked to water contamination and industrialization of public lands on which wildlife depend in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Fracking is a dangerous form of drilling that uses millions of gallons of water laced with toxic chemicals to squeeze gas from shale rock below the ground. It has no place in the George Washington National Forest, which like many national forests is a refuge for wildlife whose habitats have been destroyed by development and pollution.
Speak up today for brook trout, bears and cerulean warblers.
Thanks for all you do for America's wildlife!
Sincerely,
Sue Brown
